Women is Durga, don’t disrespect her

Women are the symbol of power and during Navratra all the nine faces of woman is worshiped. On the ninth day of Navratra even priests wash the feet of nine girls and worship them. The Indian culture and tradition teaches to respect women in all her forms but in contrast women face violence of all forms in the country including physical, mental and emotional. Even so-called educated people don’t leave a chance to ridicule her efforts to win the odds. Recently four youth brutally killed three girls in Deoria near to Gorakhpur because one of the girls refused to accept love proposal.

From home to roads and roads to offices we all have seen violence against women in its various forms. It’s an irony that in a country like India where women is worshiped as Durga is also molested in Guwahati, faces acid attack in Dhanbad, raped by a ward boy in Karnataka, suffers with extreme violence at the tender age of two, murdered by her own parents within the womb. The problem is not related to social status or illiteracy as IG of police could molest his own daughter’s friend, it is a problem of deterioration of moral standards of society. It is a consequence of selfish, materialistic and tyrant culture which is galloping goodness and leaving us in suffocating evil smog. A society that is unable to value, guard and foster its women and children loses its moral moorings and runs adrift. But organizations like Gulabi gang and MAVA indicate that though the night is very dark but dawn is not far away.
Acid attacks over women are naked truth of the society. It not only destroys a person physically but also brakes morally. The laws against acid attacks are not as strict as it is required. Dr. Sofia Abbasi, gynecologist says, “Acid attacks are brutal offence and it should be dealt with more stringent laws. Unfortunately most of the victims of acid attacks are women. The acid assault is a heinous crime that deforms physical structure and crushes the confidence and will power of the victim. I personally reject the idea of selling acid openly. We require tough laws and social rejection of attackers. I always feel the need of reconsidering laws in our country which deals with any kind of violence against women. We also require a heavy change in attitude of police and judicial procedure when they deal with female victims.”
Female feticide is another open secret of the society. Daily innumerous girls are killed by their own parents in the greed of a son. The increasing gap in the male female ratio tells the entire story. Anju Chowdhary, former mayor of the city opines, “I know women who have faced more than 10 abortions just in the lust of a male child. Unfortunately in many cases women herself long for a male child and comfortably kill their unborn innocent female child in their own womb. A woman in the form of mother in law curses her daughter in law for giving birth to a female child. I feel ashamed when a woman becomes a party in violence against other women. Certainly root of the problem is greed and selfishness which is mushrooming with high pace in the society. A mother could change the sick mentality of the society by sowing right seeds of morality and righteousness in her children.”
Man and women are two pillars of the society and absence of any of the two will destroy the balance of the society. Any society flourishes when the women of the society get equal social status. Satya Pandey, Mayor of the city, says, “A women nurtures a family and actively participates in building a civilized society but she becomes victim of domestic violence at her own home. Sometimes she is burnt by her own people for dowry sometimes faces rejection for not making right food and sometimes beaten by her own husband for any xyz reasons. The time has come that all women should try to recognize their power and restore self respect. I’m happy that now women are making their space at every place with their own efforts and sincerity. We require more Sunita Williams to rock the world and universe.”

Education is the right of every human but some fundamentalists reject it for women. Snatching the right to education from anyone is the worst form of violence. Dr. Aziz Ahmed says, “I believe that education transforms life and evolve a man into a human. Brave girl Malala has slapped on the face of fundamentalists and opened fights against illiteracy. Religion never restricts women from getting educated. Educated women constitute a healthy society. We need to educate our girls properly if we want a develop society. Male chauvinism restricts a male to accept the supremacy of women in any area. Killing small wishes of our daughters just because they are females is actually violence against them. Upbringing both male and female child equally without any sexual discrimination is necessary for the health of the society.”
Morality and spirituality are required for a healthy and safe society. We need to revive our old social and spiritual values.  Prof. Vinode Solanki, DDU, says, “Violence is bad in any form. It is a mark of evil and couldn’t be justified in any condition. Our constitution promotes   justice, equality, liberty and fraternity which are must for any civilized society. In recent years the cases of violence has become frequent due to steep moral degradation of society. In our culture women has a very prominent and respectful place but unfortunately our selfish desires has dragged us to such situation. We should always reject and protest against any form of violence as avoiding evil is also a way of promoting it.”
